A Heart Broken Everlasting Heart Sara Barnard 9781939217257 Books
A Heart Broken is the continuing story of Charlotte and Sanderson and you can't help but love them all the more in book 2.This story is a bit darker than A Heart on Hold. Dealing with the aftermath of the civil war, and Sanderson coming to terms with living a more normal life. Where in the first book we were taken on a journey of faith and trust that their love could survive the war despite overwhelming odds, in A Heart Broken we are presented with a whole new set of problems.
Charlotte and Sanderson are far from an easy life. Not only is Sanderson out of work, but being on the losing side of the war, and his escape from prison in the first book. Then there are problems on a more personal level.
Barnard continues to write great characters that have flaws and struggles but always strive to find a solution. Though so many hardships, her characters show strong family values.
Oh, and Jerry is back! I love Jerry, he plays a large role in this book and by the end I loved him even more. The supporting characters of Cotton, Minerva, Jerry and Pa are well written and all have a role to play, none of them overlap or feel unneeded.
My one and only disappointment with this book was the pacing. At times it felt a little choppy. A lot happens in this book... and I mean a lot. If you go into the book realizing that to story arc is a personal journey and not necessarily about one issue, you may find the flow fine. However, going into the book I thought the story was going to arc through one issue, much like the first, and had to realize part way through that it wasn't the case.
This was only a very small hiccup in an otherwise great book and I'm giving it 4 out of 5 stars. Can't wait to read book 3 and continue following Charlotte and Sanderson through the Wild West.

A Heart Broken Everlasting Heart Sara Barnard 9781939217257 Books Reviews
This is my first time reading this author's books. It's a good story with very likeable characters. The storyline flows. Seems to be historically good except for what the author explains changes she made to fit the story. Does not affect the story. Had some good historical people we have read about at some point in our lives.
Sara Barnard's second in An Everlasting Heart series A Heart Broken provides a continuing saga.
You feel Charlotte's heartache over rejection by Sanderson as he leaves to redeem his honor and his life. The struggle that distance and misunderstanding intensify brings more loss when her baby miscarriages.
Sanderson experiences a posse bent on death, a trial fixed on injustice, and an assignment to redeem himself full of trials.
Through their individual trials, complete with temptation inward and outward, they both resolve that their love is forever and their vow is their word. With that thin line, they both seek to persevere till they are reunited.
It's a story of love, commitment and integrity, but shows human weakness can wear those virtues away when allowed.
I'd recommend the book.
Love the determination of Charlotte and Sanderson to fight through their challenges so they can be together. Another wonderful book from Sara Barnard!
A Heart Broken, book 2 in An Everlasting Heart series, has captured my heart! A Heart on Hold was a great way to start this story of Charlotte and Sanderson off, and A Heart Broken has continued their story beautifully. I am sitting here in anticipation for the next two books that come out this year. WOOHOO!
Wonderful story and series of books.
A wonderful series....a good clean one.
If you liked A Heart on Hold, you will love A Heart Broken. Charlotte is such a strong character that one cannot help but cheer her on during every heart-breaking setback. I won't give any spoilers, but I will say that the historical details and action packed scenes really help bring this timeless love story to life. I'm already counting the days until Book Three is released!
