Sizzle A Novel (Audible Audio Edition) Julie Garwood Susan Denaker Random House Audio Books

Not sure why but I just didn’t connect with either of the characters at all in this book. The mystery was fine if a bit convoluted. My issue was the characters in this one. I got zero chemistry from the two main characters and even the few side characters were pretty dull.

Just wasn’t something I cared for I guess.

Sizzle A Novel (Audible Audio Edition) Julie Garwood Susan Denaker Random House Audio Books Reviews

I have always been a huge Julie Garwood fan. Her books had humor and good solid plots. I disliked it when she shifted gears into contemporary romantic suspense, but they weren't that bad. I am getting bored with them though. So much so that although I owned every Julie Garwood book, I haven't bought any of her books since Murder List. I bought Sizzle hoping that the blase writing was just a phase, alas it wasn't. It's an okay read, I long for the excitement I used to feel when I couldn't wait until her novels to be released.

I also would like to know if I am the only one getting sick of her using descendants of her historical romances. It was cute when she wove a mention of The Gift and Guardian Angel into Prince Charming, but now I feel its been done too much.
I have read all of Julie Garwood's books, and I loved all of her books. I think that her historicals definitely have that something that makes it extra special but I think that her contemporary books are great as well. This book doesn't fail to deliver...it is after all, a suspenseful romance. I don't think that it falls short of any of her previous contemporary efforts. They do seem to follow in a certain pattern but at the same time- at least I'm not surprised by anything. I go in expecting a humorous romance from one of my favorite authors and I was not disappointed. I too, was also able to get this book on pre-order and she is one of the authors that I don't mind paying for one of her new books. It looks like lowered the price on this book down in line to how much their new books are going for, and I agree that the rating should not be in protest of the prices. Julie Garwood is a great writer and I was to stress that this book follows the recent contemporary trail that she has done recently- if you liked her previous ones- then you will probably like this one.
I am a fan of Julie Garwood's Buchanan/Renard/Mackenzie books. I have read all of them and Sizzle lives up to the rest. The characters are well rounded and relateable, the plot well thought out. I have been waiting for another book in this series to be released and got it right away. The other thing about this series is each book can stand alone, you don't have to read the previous books to get the story line.
Sizzle is the eighth book in the Buchanan series, it follows Lyra and Sam. Lyra is a film student who gets mixed up in something that she doesn't understand. When her and her roommates' apartment gets broken into, her roommate calls her brothers the Buchanan brothers. They send Sam as a bodyguard for Lyra until they can find out what is going on. People keep trying to kill Lyra and Sam keeps saving her. They are instantly attracted to each other and as time goes on they start growing attached. Lyra is a beautiful girl who is not conceited and she doesn't use her beauty to get what she wants. She is funny and has insecurities that are normal and real for any woman. Sam is a larger than life gorgeous hero, he has some emotional insecurity, yet he is aware of them. They are good together and it's not just about the physical attraction. You would feel the emotional pull that they have towards each other. The book is exciting and has a surprise at the end that I didn't think was going to happen. I really liked this book and would read it again.
Like other reviewers, Julie Garwood used to be an automatic purchase for me. With this genre, you're not expecting a whole lot of originality or out of the box thinking, but Garwood was always funny and her characters were well developed. After reading the latest book, Garwood has officially been taken off the automatic purchase list.

First of all, she seems to have gotten seriously out of touch. She's writing about a main female character who is still in school, yet the voice of the character seems to be that of an 80-year old school marm. She throws in a reference to the character's iPhone, as if that will make her 20-something character seem legit, but it seems so contrived, you can't help but wonder if the author has ever seen an iPhone.

Second, what is up with all of a sudden putting in all the political stuff? When I'm reading a romantic suspense, I am after escapism, not political debate. I am not interested in listening to the author bash "die hard lefty liberalists," as if she has to somehow make up to her conservative audience for the fact that she's writing a book set in LA where the heroine wants to make movies.

Finally, there is just no zest. Garwood has clearly forgotten the rule of "Show, don't tell." The need to explain the interactions between the characters only highlights the fact that she has forgotten to develop them.

All in all, I was very disappointed. Read some classic Garwood and pass this on by. You'll be much happier.
I bought this as a used product, because the description said that it was "very good". However, when I opened the book, the back is broken, there are smudged fingerprints, writing, old stickers and damage to the book. This is a book that was supposed to be added to a collection & kept. Now will probably return & buy the new one. The description should have stated that it was below average at best. Definitely not "very good" condition.
Not sure why but I just didn’t connect with either of the characters at all in this book. The mystery was fine if a bit convoluted. My issue was the characters in this one. I got zero chemistry from the two main characters and even the few side characters were pretty dull.

Just wasn’t something I cared for I guess.
